Human figures rendered in jade are uncommon in metropolitan Shang and early Zhou art. This standing male figure is bearded with large eyes, ears, a wide nose, and bushy eyebrows. He appears to be wearing leggings that come up to his thighs. He has wide hips and shoulders. The nephrite is white with slight hints of green and has a bullnose suspension perforation on top of the figure's head. Traces of cinnabar remain inside the perforation. A comparable work is currently at the British Museum, museum no. 1945,1017.39 .
