Human figures rendered in jade are uncommon in metropolitan Shang and early Zhou art. This standing male is wearing a head covering on top of which a bull-nose suspension perforation is drilled. His hands are covering his stomach and his ankles are separated by a straight through perforation. He has a small mouth, wide nose, and his eyes appear to be partially shut. The nephrite is brown and off-white. A comparable work is currently at the British Museum, museum no. 1945,1017.39 .
