The large, stunning pendant is expertly carved on both sides. The nephrite is a pale, milky white-green on one side, and has deep, dark brown inclusions on the other. The image, identical on either side, depicts a crouching anthropomorphic figure with a Phoenix perched on its head. The kneeling human figure appears partially transformed, with talons for feet and arms/hands as wings. The Phoenix body is expressed as an Archimedean spiral with its beak at the center of loop. There is a suspension perforation at the the top/center of the pendant. A similar piece was unearthed in Tomb 31 at the cemetery of the Marquis of Jin in Shanxi.
